      Austin

      What to do in Austin:

Austin is the capital of Texas, set along the Colorado River and surrounded by rolling Hill Country landscapes. The city has a distinct creative identity, with live music venues, independent boutiques, food trucks, and colorful neighborhoods spread throughout the urban area. Downtown landmarks include the Texas State Capitol and the pedestrian-friendly Congress Avenue, where the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge becomes a gathering point at sunset as thousands of bats emerge from beneath it.

Outdoor activities are woven into daily life in Austin. Lady Bird Lake is popular for kayaking, paddleboarding, and trails along the water, while Barton Springs Pool offers a natural swimming spot within Zilker Metropolitan Park. The city is also known for its barbecue and Tex-Mex, with plenty of local restaurants and food trucks serving regional specialties. Outside Austin, the Hill Country opens up into vineyards, swimming holes, scenic drives, and small towns such as Fredericksburg. This makes the area particularly suited to road trips that combine the city with the landscapes of central Texas.
